Yaber Pro Y9 Review
Unboxing
The first thing that comes out of the box is the gray-colored zippered fabric pouch. The carrying pouch has a backpack design, which you can easily mount on your back.
The projector and its accessories are all contained within this carrying pouch. It contains the projector, along with the following:
- HDMI Cable
- Composite cable
- Microfiber cloth
- 2x Cue tips
The package also includes a 100-inch gray projector screen, the first I’ve seen in budget projectors. We’ll talk about the screen a little later.

In addition, it also comes with an IR remote control, 24 months warranty card, first-start guide, and user manual.
Design & Built Quality
Yaber is known for building good-looking budget projectors, and the Yaber Pro Y9 is no exception.
The fabric strip on the projector’s front gives it a unique look, making it stand out among its competitors. The front also has a projection lens and an IR receiver.
The projector’s top is clean with focus & keystone correction rings above the projection lens. There are also touch-sensitive control buttons. These capacitive buttons are backlit and include 4-way navigation buttons, and buttons for power, source, menu and return.
The right side has cooling fans and exhaust vents. In contrast, the left side features an air intake area with a removable dust filter. It’s hard to find budget projectors with a removable air intake filter. It prevents dust from getting into the projector, prolonging the projector’s life.
The back features connectivity options like:
- 2x HDMI ports
- 2x USB ports
- AV port
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- IR blaster
The brand claims Yaber Pro Y9 has stereo speakers; however, I found perforations for a single speaker in the back.

Built quality-wise, the Yaber Pro Y9 feels sturdy in hand. It has a plastic casing, which helps keeps the weight low.
It weighs 3.9 pounds with compact dimensions of 9 x 7.4 x 2.7 (WxDxH). Thus, you can easily store it in your backpack and carry it anywhere.
As mentioned above, the provided carrying pouch is also designed like a backpack. Thus, you can carry the projector along with its accessories.
Performance of Yaber Pro Y9
The Yaber Pro Y9 needs around 7-10 seconds of startup time. It displays the Yaber logo in the meantime. The boottime is better than several lamp-based projectors, which require warm-up time to start the projector completely.

There’s no built-in Android OS; hence, it has limited functionality. It has a basic UI with quick options for Miracast, iOS Cast, Music, Pictures, Videos & Documents.
It supports dual-band Wi-Fi, which is a rarity at this price point. The Wi-Fi connectivity helps with screen mirroring features.
The Yaber Pro Y9 has 1080p native resolution. Thanks to full HD resolution, the image looks sharp & crisp. Compared to other projectors with similar prices, it has high brightness of 460 ANSI lumens. The brightness is good enough for a dark & moderately dim room.

4K Content: The brand claims Yaber Pro Y9 supports up to 4K content. In my testing, I found 4K videos playback a bit buggy. While using a pen drive, the 4K videos were either laggy or didn’t run. Having said that, 1080p videos worked perfectly and without any issues.
I used the projector with the provided gray projector screen. Compared to projecting on a wall, there’s a massive difference when projecting onto the projector screen.

The gray color helps balance the whites & blacks, and you get a bright output. The projector screen is cheap, yet a good option than projecting on a wall.
The dynamic contrast ratio is rated at 16,000:1. I’d suggest taking this number with a grain of salt. Having said that, there’s a good separation between blacks and whites. Again, I suggest using the provided projection screen rather than projecting on a wall to get the best image output.
Keystone Correction: The Yaber Pro Y9 has an 8-way keystone correction. Within the setting menu, you can access 4-corner & 4-side keystone correction. It is useful when the projector isn’t placed in the projector screen’s center. The keystone correction option helps in achieving a proper rectangular screen. It also includes projector position options like front, rear, front-ceiling, and rear-ceiling

Zoom: Thanks to 50% zoom support, you’ll get a bigger picture from a shorter distance. Apparently, at max zoom, the edges and corners look blurry. Hence, I wouldn’t recommend using the zoom feature at 100%.
Screen Mirroring: The Yaber Pro Y9 has screen mirroring options and is extremely seamless to use. With the iOS Cast feature, you can connect this projector to iPhone & other Apple devices. Whereas, with Miracast, you can connect it to Android smartphones, Windows laptops, etc. Make sure your smartphone and projector are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Smart Projector: The lack of Android OS limits its functionality. Yet, you can turn it into a smart projector for under $29. Amazon Fire TV Stick, Chromecast with Google TV, or Roku Streaming Stick will turn it into a smart projector. With a streaming media player. You can access the internet and apps like Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, etc.

USB Functionality: If you attach a USB drive, you can access videos, music, pictures & documents. You can also open Word, Excel & PDF files directly from the USB drive. Thus, no need to connect a laptop during presentations.
Remote Control: The remote control is basic and feel very tacky to use. It has all basic functions, uses IR signals and runs on 2x AAA batteries. The remote has no backlit keys, and you cannot expect much from a sub $200 projector. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, the Yaber Pro Y9 will also work with a universal Bluetooth remote.
System Updates: The problem with most budget projectors is system upgrades. Yaber solves this by offering free system updates. The system updates help remove any bugs and also help add additional features.
Important Features & Functions
Yaber has left no stone unturned to make this projector as desirable as possible.
It supports 5GHz frequency for interruption-free connection. In addition, Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity offers a lag-free connection and consumes low power.
You can connect a Bluetooth remote or game controller and play games without lag.
180,000 hours of lamp life is a bold claim from Yaber. Having said that, even if you assume the LED lamp lasts up to ¼ of its projected lamp life. In that case, the projector lamp will last over a decade with heavy use.
Most budget projectors promise a 300-inch screen. But that isn’t possible due to extremely low brightness.
With 460 ANSI lumens, you get sufficient brightness for good picture quality at a 300-inch screen size. Hence, you can easily use it as an outdoor projector.
Pros & Cons of Yaber Pro Y9

Conclusion
Getting a decent budget projector is a mess. It’s because Amazon.com and other marketplaces are filled with mediocre products which promise more than they can deliver.
On the other hand, the Yaber Pro Y9 is a sub-$200 projector that looks good, has a compact design and offers numerous essential features.
Suppose you’re looking for a portable, beautiful & budget projector. In that case, you should get the Yaber Pro Y9 eyes closed.

Thank You!
I see Yaber makes good projectors that sell at very very low prices. And this Yaber Pro Y9 is very popular. Max 300 inches screen and 460 ANSI brightness are not bad in such as low price.
