First Impression & Design
While most projectors are busy catering to the home theatre or the business segment, Viewsonic PX706HD chose the gamers!
However, that doesn’t mean the projector is any less impressive when it comes to watching movies or other entertainment and work use.

It comes in a compact casing with dimensions of 4.53 x 11.53 x 8.66 inches and weighs at 5.95 lbs.
Even though the projector is geared towards gaming, yet the design is simplistic. However, once installed, it will project images with a precision of 10-bit colors, i.e., 1.07 billion colors!
Though its also important to note that input latency is crucial in gaming, and this projector offers input latency of 16ms.
This is surely no match to gaming monitors that offer input lag of around 3ms within the budget range. However, gaming with a view of 100-inches plus has its own joy as well.
Thus playing games like GTA V or Minecraft would be highly pleasurable and can’t be competed with gaming monitors. Considering it’s a projector, 16ms is by far the best response times you’ll get at a budget price!

To get the best gaming experience, you can also check the Viewsonic PX701-4K that offers 4K resolution, 240Hz refresh rate and 4.2ms response time.
Another advantage offered by Viewsonic PX706HD is the ability of short-throw projection. Thus, you can get up to 100-inch screen size from a distance of just 4.9 ft. Whereas, regular projectors like Epson Home Cinema 1060 offers 100-inch screen size from a distance of 10-feet and more.
This allows the projector to be placed on a coffee table and enjoy great visual experience, without going through the hassle of ceiling mounting.
This feature comes in handy, especially when trying to project in somewhat confined spaces. The only downside we could find is the 5W mono speaker that is fairly audible, but getting a dedicated speaker system like Logitech Z625 or a gaming headphone like Steelseries Artic 5 would solve your audio woes.
Built Quality & Performance
Aesthetics are a top priority for gamers. So, if you consider yourself to be one of them, you might not like the way Viewsonic PX706HD looks. However, your opinion will change as soon as you realize how this normal looking device fits into small spaces!

It has a brightness output of 3,000 lumens for white and RGB colors, which will blow off your minds if you’re used to cheap projectors like the DBPower L21 or the GooDee YG600. This feature establishes visual distinction in the background elements of a game scene. Thus, enhancing your ability to locate critical details like enemies hiding in the shrubs.
Your visual experience is further aided by the projector’s ability to cast images with a 22,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio!
It has native resolution of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and can project images up to 300 inches in size. More importantly, you can always switch to the dedicated Gaming Mode with extreme screen-to-projection precision.

The lamp source usually lasts for about 4,000 hours in normal mode. However, you may incorporate the Eco-Mode for a longer life span. Specifically, using this mode will prolong the lamp’s life up to 15,000 hours by dropping the projector’s brightness.
In a fairly dim room, Eco mode will serve your purpose very well! Whereas, make use of Normal mode during daytime viewing or in ambient lighting conditions.
Moreover, the Eco mode also reduces power consumption and prevents overheating of projection lamp. Plus, it helps in lowering the fan noise too.
Viewsonic PX706HD is one of the best projectors in terms of diversified connectivity! The back panel of this projector holds two HDMI 1.4 ports along with one VGA and one RS232 port.

It even includes two Audio (in/out) ports and an RCA Video in for the composite video. This projector misses out on wireless connectivity options like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Although, you can turn it into a smart projector by connecting it to Fire TV Stick and access plethora of apps and games through it.

Additionally, you also get Mini USB and USB 3.1 Type C ports. These enable you to connect the projector to your smartphones directly.
Important Features & Function
The provided lens cover prevent the projector lens from external damage when not in use. The side panels of the projector have large grills that primarily act as the exhaust points.
These grills even allow the built-in 5W speaker to eject sound comfortably. The top side of the projector hosts ten specific keys. These enable you to easily navigate through various projection modes, especially in dark spaces.
At the base, the projector holds two mounting feet at the back and an adjustable one in the front. The adjustable foot seems slightly oversized yet does its job quite well.

Viewsonic PX706HD offers you three distinct projection modes, i.e., standard, sport, and gaming mode. Each of the modes receives similar brightness levels. That being said, you can see the difference between the three modes.
The gaming mode favors a bit of blue hue over the rest, optimizing the element variations. It offers multiple keystone settings, including manual options. However, switching on the gaming mode with 16-millisecond latency erases all manual keystone correction settings.
It is a bit annoying for a sophisticated machine like this one. We’ll suggest that you find it a proper place to rest before plugging in your joysticks!
The projector pretty much stands true to its claims of providing immersive gaming experience. We say so because it does not register any delay due to controller action!
It performed well for battle royale and FPS games, even without switching to the fastest response time!

Conclusion
If you’re a professional gamer, then buying this projector instead of a fast response gaming monitor won’t be a wise choice.
The Viewsonic PX706HD is meant for people who want a casual gaming projector and for entertainment purpose. Whereas, you might also connect your Xbox or PlayStation for some casual gaming.
Thus, this projector is not meant for serious gaming. However, you’d be better playing casual multiplayer games with your friends, where the big screen would help.
However, if you’re beginning your gaming career, you might also want to consider the BenQ TH671ST, which offers slightly better gaming performance. This projector is also excellent for cinematic experiences. However, you can getter better home theatre projectors for far less!
