If you are looking to build a low-cost home theater setup and want a projector that doesn’t cost a bomb. Then the Epson Home Cinema 760HD is the right choice for you.

In the market, you can find tons of affordable projectors under $300 or less. These projectors are light on your pocket, but they also lack in one important department, i.e., brightness output.

My favorite budget projector is the Yaber Pro V7, which comes with 1080p native resolution, automatic keystone adjustments, and wireless connectivity. Although, it only offer up to 400 lumens brightness.

On the other hand, the Epson Home Cinema 760HD costs close to $400. It offers a whopping 3,300 lumens brightness, almost 8x higher brightness.

Hence in this Epson Home Cinema 760HD review, we’ll go over the projector’s initial impression, design, built quality, and performance. Later we’ll let you know if it’s the right choice or are there better options available?

Are you ready?

Let’s get started!

Epson Home Cinema 760HD Review

  • Widescreen HD entertainment up to 300" - life-sized images up to 25x larger than a 60" flat panel, on virtually any blank wall or screen.
  • Bright - ideal for a variety of lighting conditions, the Projector has 3, 300 Lumens of equal color and White brightness (1).
  • All-digital HDMI connectivity - Connect your cable/satellite box, Blu-ray Disc player, gaming console or streaming device.
  • Innovative 3LCD technology - amazing action scenes with no rainbow effect.

First Impression & Design

The Epson Home Cinema 760HD sits in Epson’s value-line home theater projector range. This projector is a great pick to set up a low-cost home theater system or turn your small living room into a part-time home theater.

Being an inexpensive projector, the Epson Home Cinema 760HD’s design resembles that of its pricier counterparts like the Epson Home Cinema 1060. The design is very familiar, and it will be hard to confuse it for any other projector than Epson.

The projector’s front hosts the projection lens, a kickstand, and exhaust port for heat dissipation. The top contains a focus ring, zoom ring, and toggle for keystone correction. The top also has a power ON/OFF button, control buttons, and indicator LEDs.

The back contains connectivity options, an IR receiver, and a 2W mono speaker. Connectivity-wise, you get 1x HDMI port, 1x VGA port, 1x composite video post, 1x RCA audio ports, 1x USB Type-A port, and 1x USB Type-B port.

Inside the package, you do not have plenty of accessories. Along with the projector, the package only includes an instruction manual, remote control, and a power cord. HDMI cable is absent, and you’d need to buy one aftermarket.

Built Quality & Performance

The Epson Home Cinema 760HD is a mid-size projector; hence it has a smaller footprint than a regular home theater projector.

It measures 12 inches wide, 9.3 inches deep, and 3.2 inches high. In contrast, its mid-size design keeps the weight low at 5.5 pounds. Hence, carrying around this projector won’t be an issue.

In terms of built quality, it has an entire plastic casing, which is a common sight even with pricier projectors too. Although, the projector is exceptionally sturdy and well built. You won’t find any panel gaps, nor are there any squeaks.

Targeted towards budget home theater buyers, you can easily ceiling mount the Epson Home Cinema 760HD. However, be aware an accidental drop from waist height might be enough to damage this projector completely. Learn how to properly ceiling mount this projecter through this article.

The projection technology used in Epson Home Cinema 760HD consists of multiple optical lenses that work in unison to provide an excellent projection. Hence, a small crack in any of these lenses might be enough to damage the projection assembly permanently.

Talking about performance, there aren’t any downfalls I’ve noticed. For the price, you get a well-rounded performance, and it works much better than thousands of affordable projectors you can find in the market.

The Epson Home Cinema 760HD comes with a native resolution of 1280 x 720p. The HD resolution is enough for a small home theater or casual usage. The performance of this projector is much better than multitudes of affordable projectors in the market.

Epson Home Cinema 760HD Review - high brightness projector

The 3LCD projection technology is a significant advantage in Epson’s projectors. It makes them stand out compared to DLP projection technology used in other budget home theater projectors.

Recently I reviewed a pocket projector that costs roughly the same price as the Epson Home Cinema 760HD. However, there’s a night and day difference in brightness, picture quality, and color accuracy between both the projectors.

The Epson Home Cinema 760HD’s 3,300 lumens brightness offers 8-10x higher brightness than budget projectors. Whereas coupling it with Epson’s 3LCD technology offers a crisp and clear image quality.

With the high brightness, you can easily use this projector during daytime or in a bright environment. The picture won’t look faded, nor do you have to sit in complete darkness. Please do check out list of best projectors for bright room by clicking here.

The built-in 2W speaker offers average sound output and offers mediocre performance and loudness at best. Moreover, the projector doesn’t offer a 3.5mm audio out port.

Suppose you want to connect it to an external speaker. In that case, you should either get an RCA audio to 3.5mm cable or RCA audio 3.5mm female adapter.

The absence of Bluetooth limits the projector’s usability. However, you can connect it to a streaming media player and use the Bluetooth connectivity option.

To keep this projector cool, the exhaust fans work at their full potential. In regular mode, the exhaust fans produce 37 decibels noise levels. In a quiet room, the fan noise is noticeable; however, once you increase audio levels, the exhaust fans noise becomes unnoticeable. In Eco mode, the noise level drops down to 28 decibels.

Important Features & Functions

  • HD resolution: At this price point, brands like Viewsonic, BenQ, and Optoma offer up to XGA resolution projectors. However, with the Epson Home Cinema 760HD, you get HD resolution, which translates to 1280 x 720p. Hence you get better clarity and image output compared to lower resolution projectors.
  • High Contrast Ratio: Most budget projectors max out at 10,000:1 contrast ratio. Although with the Epson Home Cinema 760HD, you get a whopping 15,000:1 contrast ratio. Higher contrast ratio means you get deep black and excellent separation between colors.
  • Lamp Life: In Eco Mode, the Epson Home Cinema 760HD can last up to 10,000 hours. Whereas in regular mode, this projector offers up to 6,000 hours of lamp life. The high brightness output of UHE lamps results in lower lamp life.
